Mountbatten House, Chatham
Welcome to our public consultation website
This public consultation website has been produced as part of our community engagement in relation to a detailed planning application which will be submitted to Medway Council for the regeneration of Mountbatten House in Chatham.
Chatham’s iconic Mountbatten House, a 1970s office building, has been empty for far too long. This initiative is to transform the building to high quality residential apartments and public use to help regenerate the centre of town.
Medway Development Company Ltd, in conjunction with Lyall Bills & Young Architects and C.F. Møller Architects, have prepared this public exhibition for the proposed scheme to illustrate our vision for the development in this important and historic area of Chatham.
A planning application will be submitted shortly to include the following elements:
- Conversion of the upper floors of Mountbatten House to apartments with a refurbishment of its facades and the use of the rooftop as a public space with a bar/restaurant
- The creation of a new extension building at the north end of Mountbatten House for residential above commercial and public uses
- The design of a temporary ‘wrap’ to the concrete frame of the old bus station
- The creation of a new plaza/square at the end of Military Road, making a connection with the Brook Theatre
In the interest of the safety of members of the public, and in accordance with Government guidance following the Covid-19 pandemic, we are currently unable to hold a traditional public consultation event to present the scheme and answer your questions.
In accordance with Government guidance we are therefore providing alternative means of public engagement. Display panels outlining the proposals and advertising this consultation website have been erected in the Pentagon Centre. In addition to this, press articles have been released online to local newspapers to inform those with an interest in the site of the forthcoming development proposals and this consultation website.
To leave feedback on any aspect of the development please click on the ‘Your Views’ tab which will allow you to submit your feedback. We encourage you to review each of the elements of the development set out in this website and the relevant plans before leaving comment. The feedback received will be reviewed and analysed as part of the Planning Statement.
A detailed planning application will be submitted to Medway Council in December 2020.
